Dynamics 365 Power Platform April 2019 Release

The April 19 release of the Power Platform marks a major change in Microsoft’s delivery of updates to customers. With the changes in the updates from last October and the forced upgrade to version 9.x, the platform now will only maintain 1 version and has removed the Customer Driven Update Process. The April 19 release marks the first major release without a customer able to schedule it but the new process ensures everyone is on the latest version and adheres to a consistent update schedule.

To help manage this change, Microsoft has made a preview, open to everyone since February 1st and documented the changes coming in this release quiet well as well as consistently maintaining those details as we get closer to the release date. Microsoft has fully published when you can expect those updates to be pushed to your environment in their April 19 FAQ

We are very excited for the April 19 release and working with customers to utilize the latest feature set in their organizations to enhance their business processes.  We are specifically very excited to see the Dynamics 365 portal now listed and treated as a platform based feature, included in its own section in the release notes.  This shows the commitment to the portal as the tool customers use to engage with external audiences in their Dynamics 365 and Power Platform data. There are many improved features we are excited to implement and build from, including a portal maintenance mode, PowerBI embeds, an external integration API and for marketing, integration with other content management systems.

Other exciting features include; a brand new offering of Microsoft Forms in a new Pro version of the product.  If you have ever used Voice of the Customer, this is an enhanced new offering based on the success of the existing Microsoft Forms platform.  Bringing conditional logic, enhanced question types and integration directly into Dynamics 365 as well as distribution through many different channels. This promises to be a great tool to design information intake in various scenarios.

Microsoft continues the integration of AI in more scenarios as well, and we expect this will continue to be an investment for Microsoft, launching additional AI based services with Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform.  Dynamics 365 Customer Service Insights brings 3 brand new AI apps, the virtual agent, customer insights, and fraud protection to enhance the capabilities in the customer service marketplace.
